Orton-Gillingham Teacher
- Completion of 80 hours of course work
- Completion of mandatory reading list
- Successful completion of 6 quizzes, one final exam and where success is defined as above 75%
- 100 hour practicum to be completed within 18 months
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
Master Teacher
Requirements:
- Completion of an additional 120 hours of course work
- Completion of mandatory reading list
- Attendance of two relevant international conferences
- Completion of 200 hours of instructional time
- Bachelor’s degree
- Practical Linguistics:
Part 1 and Part 2
Practical Linguistics Therapist
Requirements:
- Completion of an additional 85 hours of course work
- Successful completion of assignments and one final exam
- Completion of assigned reading list
- Two-year internship, including 300 hours of teaching
- Master’s degree in relevant field

Parts 1, 2, & 3
Orton-Gillingham Practical Linguistics© Certification
Orton-Gillingham Teacher Certificate issued by The Canadian Dyslexia Society (CDS) on completion the Orton-Gillingham Practical Linguistics Parts 1 and 2, assignments, 100-hour practicum and readings.
Master Teacher Trainer – a license to train teachers for Orton-Gillingham certification issued by Claremont Educational Services, Inc. is obtained after completion of Orton-Gillingham Practical Linguistics Part 1 and 2, course work, practicum and readings. Attendance at two relevant international conferences not more than 3 years prior to completing the practicum.
Certificate in Practical Linguistics Therapy© issued by The Canadian Dyslexia Society (CDS) on completion of Orton-Gillingham Practical Linguistics Parts 1 and 2, & 3, and additional 3-day seminar; 300-hour practicum, assignments and readings.
Orton-Gillingham Teaching Certificate (CDS) training exceeds Associate Level Training required by The Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators. All trainees may apply to the Academy for Associate Level Membership, but reading requirements may differ. See the Orton Academy for further course and reading guidelines.
Prerequisites
Part 1 is a prerequisite for Part 2. Part 2 is a prerequisite for Part 3. All courses are open to parents, educators, administrators and therapists.
Certification requires university degree or equivalent.
