Which classes should I take?

All seminars are “stand-alone” and you are free to attend any seminar – there are no pre-requisites or conditions.

What is certification?

Certification requires you to take courses: Part 1 and/or Part 2.  Seminars are taken in a specific sequence, attendees complete assignments, reading, tests and a practicum.

What certification do you offer?

  • OG Classroom Educator
  • OG Structured Literacy Teacher

What is an OG Classroom Educator?

A teacher using the Orton-Gillingham Approach in a classroom who has completed Part 1 and a supervised practicum.

What is an OG Structured Literacy Teacher?

A teacher using the Orton-Gillingham (OG) Approach for individual, small groups and classrooms who has completed Part 1 and 2, plus a supervised practicum.

What is a Supervised Practicum? 

A practicum is required for certification and is arranged after completing course work. A practicum involves review of all lessons delivered and selected observations. Additional fees apply to practicum supervision. 

Is the Practicum mandatory?

No, you do not have to do a Practicum. Instead of certification, you will receive a Letter of Completion for Part 1 and/or Part 2.

Part 1 + Practicum

Course Cost: $1,050 + HST

Practicum: $750 + HST

Undergraduate degree from College / University or Equivalent

Practicum: 50 hours

OPTION 3

OG Structured
Literacy Teacher
Part 1 + Part 2 + Practicum

Course Cost: $1,050 + HST

Practicum Cost: $2350 + HST

Pre-requisite:

Part 2 Course: 15 Modules
Course work: 40 hours
Practicum: 150 hours

WORKSHOPS

1-day and 2-day In-Person
OG/Structured Literacy Workshops

One-Day Workshop – Classroom Focus

Implementation of Structured Literacy in the Classroom/Q & A with Evelyn Reiss and Claremont teachers: observation in the morning and discussion in the afternoon. Open to all teachers interested in seeing how OG/Structured Literacy is implemented in an elementary school. Maximum 15 participants.
April 24th, 2024, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Cost $75 + HST. Lunch, coffee and tea included.

Two-Day Workshop - Theory & Lesson Planning Focus

OG/Structured Literacy 2-day refresher open to all OG Practitioners, Early Literacy Teachers and previous course participants. The focus will be on Phonology, Spelling, Lesson Planning and Q & A. Classroom ready activities/materials and lunch are included. Class size limited to 20.
July 3rd – 4th, 2024, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Cost $400 +HST for both days.  Lunch, coffee and tea included.
